Progress Report

I’ve been spending some time trying to get into the head of my Leading Lady – that is to say, the protagonist whose story seems to be taking over the forefront of my mind right now.  (I have four stories in my NaNo 2014 WIP folder right now; this one is taking over at the moment.)

For some reason, I’m having trouble figuring out what makes her tick.  Which is crazy, because I’ve already written some back story on her, and I feel like I know her really well.  I just need to get a little deeper into her head if I’m going to be able to clearly tell her story.

I’m struggling to put her playlist together, which has never happened to me before.  I think once I find her favorite song, the rest of the list will come more easily.

I’ve been looking through my own advice from this post on Monday, and today I decided to do the Myers-Briggs test for the Leading Lady.  Her result was ISTJ.

I am feeling really good about this.  Now that I know her MBTI, I’ll be able to get to know her much better.  In fact, I already feel like I do know her better.  If you haven’t done this for your main character(s), I strongly suggest you do it.  I’m planning next to take it for my secondary protagonist in the same novel.  Once I really get into the heart of the story, I’m going to need to know him at least as well as I know the Leading Lady, if not better.

Do you know your protagonist’s MBTI type?

Thanks! You should try it – I can’t wait to see how much it helps me understand her better!

Thanks!! That means a lot coming from you!

Very cool. Can’t say I’m too surprised ;-). How do you feel about your result?

I’m good with it. I think I waiver a bit in other directions at times but it does say that too lol I accept their assessment of me though. It does ring true.

Never really tried the test for my characters. One odd question though: Is it possible to create a character who doesn’t know what makes themselves tick? So the author can’t really figure it out until later either.

Sure, I would say it’s definitely possible.
