Progress Report

Today my progress report will be in pictures.

“Why?” you ask?

Because today my progress report has little to do with writing, and much to do with preparing for the writing that WILL happen in the craziest month of the year, which begins in two days.  Actually, a day and a half now.

My November survival package Subscribe and Save order came from Amazon today.  Well, the rest of it did.  Coincidentally enough, everything that came today was basically the rest of what I needed to get through NaNoWriMo.

Let’s take a closer look…

IMAG0151

What writer doesn’t recognize the deep need for coffee, especially during a 50,000+ word month?  Now, this is actually my husband’s coffee, as I usually drink Green Mountain; but I can practically guarantee I’ll be going for some of this darker, bolder coffee during the month of November.  Which is why I’m glad I buy it in bulk!

IMAG0150

My smoothie mix.  A scoop of this with my Flax milk, and I have a complete meal in a cup.  And it’s chocolate.  Bonus!

IMAG0155

When I get sick of coffee (gasp!!!  I know, right??) I pull out the chai tea.  Sometimes, I even choose it over coffee.  Yum!!  (Yes you do see six cartons there.  It doesn’t go as far as you might think when it’s National Novel Writing Month.)

IMAG0152

With all the coffee and tea I drink during NaNo, I need to remember to balance it out with water.  I’m a big water drinker anyway, but plain water is boring to me.  That’s where these little babies come in.  Delicious, flavored water with no artificial sweeteners.  (Sometimes I throw in a little PureVia if I need it to be sweet.)

IMAG0154

No, that bottle of dry shampoo didn’t sneak in there accidentally.  It’s actually very helpful.  Think about it.

IMAG0153

These stay by my desk at all times.  They are perfect for when your brain and fingers are teaming up against your stomach and losing.  “Here, stomach, have a Kind bar and shut up.”

There’s more, like the stash of chocolate and huge bag of Gala apples in the pantry.  And let’s not forget about the wine down in the cellar.  And thank God for meal planning, since my kids and husband kind of still have to eat.  I might have to buy a few more laundry baskets though.

If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo, are you prepared?  If you’ve written about your survival stash, please share a link in the comments!

Nuts should be soaked 12 hrs to remove the phytic acid before being roasted lightly BUT I still like my Kind. =) Convenience trumps all, esp when you’re busy writing!

Yep, I agree! My cousin makes her own replicas of Kind bars… if only I had the time!

Mine are a labor of love – I put a good 24 hrs soaking, flavoring, roasting, dehydrating.

Glad they pulled you through what I call na noo na noo time. =) Kudos for tackling it!

Mmmmmm…. I will try them some time :-). It will be the next thing I do the next time I get some “free” time ;-).

And thanks! The truth is, I look forward to NaNo every year. This is my 8th year, and I absolutely love it!

            Well, there you go.
            Hence author. =)

Well I’ve seen a number of published authors “bash” NaNo… but, whatever. I’d say it makes sense that it works for some but not for others. Personally, I’ll take what works and everyone else can do their own thing ;-).

          • November 9, 2014 at 8:50 pm

I don’t know why anyone would bash it. But then again, I’m not in the know on that. I was just saying it’s a crazy time cranking out those words but I know participants enjoy it – which is why they do it. =) And I know you know I wasn’t bashing lol.

Oh I definitely knew you weren’t bashing it! I find it amusing when people think it’s this major undertaking when I look forward to it so much. Kind of like when I was a kid and my mom sent to me to my room, and my answer was “Thank you, that’s my favorite place to be.” LOL

This is awesome! I never thought about having a survival kit. I’m woefully unprepared! Although I do always have loads of wine and coffee in the house, for every occasion.
Good luck! You have a good prep setup it seems. <3

HAHA I always do too; it just sounds good to add them to my “kit.” 😀 Plus I’m guaranteed to consume more of both throughout the month.

Good luck to you too! We’ll have to keep each other up to date on our novels. Too bad we can’t have our own little write-in!

      • October 30, 2014 at 7:21 pm

        Oh yes to that!

I’d love to do a write in with someone at least once. But I get in such a hermit mode and I can write nonstop in my space. I’m sure you have a routine as well… <3

        • October 30, 2014 at 7:24 pm

The last couple of years, my “routine” has been squeeze-in-as-many-words-at-a-time-as-I-can-every-little-chance-get-even-if-it’s-only-five-minutes-at-a-time-and-then-stay-up-half-the-night-closing-the-word-count-gap-for-the-day.

            That works! Haha.

    Somebody seems very prepared. 🙂
