Intentional Day Off

I took the day off from writing today.

On purpose.

I spent lots of time with people I love, and did not once let myself think about how much I wasn’t getting done in LTB:ES.  This in itself is quite the feat, as I am almost never capable of keeping my mind off whatever I’m currently working on.

I’ll be back at it tomorrow, making plenty of dedicated time to spend on the novel.  But in the meantime, I’m enjoying a quiet evening with my husband, a strawberry ale, and Boston Legal (an excellent muse, by the way).

How often do you do that: intentionally take a day off from your current writing project, to do things completely unrelated?  Are you successful at keeping your mind off said project during your day off?

I take a day off whenever I feel like I need to take a day off – we can’t exhaust ourselves. I find that I normally need a day off when it doesn’t have to do with writing at all – but something else in life, like work. That being said, I’m bad at relaxing because writing is my way of relaxing, so “my day off” quickly turns into writing something else.
