So, first of all, as I logged in this evening, WP informed me that today is my 2 year blogging anniversary.  And let me just say…  WOW.  Where has the time gone?  Thanks to everyone who has stuck with me these two years.  I know I haven’t kept you in spectacular reading material as often as I would have liked, but for those who follow me and read along anyway, I greatly appreciate your support.

 

Now for the main reason I logged in tonight.  House cleaning.  And not just my physical house.  My writing house too – that is, this blog.

I haven’t been on the computer much in the last couple of weeks.  My kids have been particularly demanding, for one thing.  And who can blame them?  They ARE kids, after all. But every time I’ve even thought about trying to write, someone needs a snack, and then someone pees in their pants, and then someone drops a plate and breaks it, and then someone needs a drink of water, and then someone needs help with their math homework….  You get it.  And if you don’t…  well, I’m mostly sorry with a pinch of jealous.

For another thing, now that the holidays seem to have FINALLY slowed down at our house (they never end with New Year’s here… we have birthdays, and more holidays, and more birthdays), I decided to take a little time to de-clutter and re-organize the loft/office.  Every time I do sit down at the computer, there are far too many distractions.  The kids are one thing, but not having a set place to work provides its own, much larger, set of challenges.  And every year from Thanksgiving until March or April, it seems like the loft/office becomes the dumping ground when we do “emergency” tidy-ups.  So for the last week or so, I’ve been working on getting things put away, filing papers, shredding old files, bagging things up for Goodwill, and organizing items.  Today I finished with the last of the shredding AND the filing, and finally got my section of the desk cleaned off.  So here I sit to type this :).

The little bit of time I did make it onto the computer last week was spent working on some editing and tidying up my categories here on the website.  When I first started, I honestly had a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of categories versus tags; I always understood tags, but it took some blogging time for me to really “get” the purpose of categories.  And by then, fixing it just seemed like a daunting task, especially amidst the regular daily chaos that I deal with.  So I finally pulled up my bootstraps and did it one day last week.  You may notice I have far fewer categories now, and some were combined while others were completely done away with.  No blog posts have disappeared, however; they are just now filed under one of the actually relevant categories.  (And for everyone who rolled their eyes and continued to put up with that lame-ish section of my website these two years, an extra medal for you.)

So now that both of those areas are (relatively) neat and clean, I’m really hoping to buckle down on some blog posts this week.  Though my hands have been doing things other than typing, my brain has still been very busy writing.  I have always kept a list of things I want to write about, and I have added quite a number of topics to that list just in the last couple of weeks.  So I really hope to get some time to sit and write in the coming days.

    Congratulations on two years! And even more congratulations on escaping the kids long enough to write a post!! I feel for you, seriously I do.
    It’s great to have you back, Leigh. 😀 Especially since I sent you an email a few hours ago… 😉
