Exciting News!

I have been in contact with my local public library, and they are going to set up a book signing with me for later in the summer!

I’m pretty excited about it, though I’m keeping my hopes fairly low and not expecting too much.  However, I do know quite a number of people in the area, as I grew up here (left for several years and then returned a couple of years ago), so I am somewhat hopeful that people who know me will show up.

I am also going to contact the library in the town where I grew up – a much smaller town (where even more people know me).  Though it sounds counterintuitive, I actually expect more from a signing at the smaller library.  Time will tell, however.  The reason I haven’t contacted the smaller library yet is because I am going to go in personally to talk with the librarian; whereas I have so far been communicating with the other librarian via email.

As you can imagine with this being my first signing, I have been doing quite a bit of research on book signings, how to prepare, what to bring, what to expect, dos and don’ts, et cetera.  Some of the best resources I have found will show up soon in a separate post.

In the meantime, if anyone has any tips or advice they wish to share, by all means, DO!

This is a good time to get a quick press release out in the local newspaper, announcing your event. You’d be surprised at how willing news outlets are to cover a local author. I did that before a signing at a small bookstore and was happy with the outcome. Good luck with your signing!!!

Thank you for the advice! I am continuously overwhelmed by the helpfulness of Indie authors to each other within the community!

One thing I’m trying to “guess” at (I know there’s no way to really know) is how many people to expect so I know how many copies of the book to bring. I don’t want to run out, and I don’t mind having extras hanging around; but I don’t want to have a hundred extras… :- So I’m hoping the press release will help!

You’ll have a blast and the library may have their own newsletter too, so don’t forget to ask them. Have fun!

They are going to advertise it internally, on their Facebook page, and on their website calendar :-). It’s more than I expected! I was planning on doing all the advertising myself!

Congratulations! This definitely is my greatest dream… and I haven’t even been published yet. I am so jealous of you, but that is a good thing. 😉

Thanks! I’m nervous as can be, if that helps ;-).
